The Correct Seat S(t)imulator: Joker
At the beginning of 2016, Roos was the very first instructor to use Joker professionally.
In 2015, a great collaboration with WOW saddle fitter Kerry Sharp was born. As a posture and sitting specialist, Roos often has to deal with the balance of the saddle. Conversely, as a saddle fitter, Kerry has a lot to do with crooked horses and ... crooked riders. So Roos and Kerry were often discussing their work with each other. Eventually, Kerry's idea for this particular simulator was born. He developed this idea and further created it into what eventually became the current – and now well-known – 'Joker' simulator.
Joker is quite different from the 'robot' simulators. For starters, there is no on or off button. The advantage is also that it does not need power.
Through a construction of springs that you have to set in motion yourself, you can walk, trot and canter. You have to have enough balance and be very aware of your own movements. Due to the construction of the springs, crookedness of the rider is also clearly expressed.
This way you learn to follow your horse optimally, so that he is not hindered in his balance, body usage and movement. This is an important basic condition, but an art in itself! As a rider, you can clearly feel the difference on Joker when you correct yourself. So the feedback comes with the help of Joker and Roos from your own feelings!

What can the Joker do for you?
In this profession you have to deal with a lot of crooked horses and ... crooked riders. Joker teaches the rider among other things about:
- The correct use of muscles (relaxation through tightening: core stability)
- The right movements (a rider cannot sit still by sitting still!)
- Sense of balance / left-right equality in movement
- The right rein contact, from bit to shoulders
- Timing and coordination
- Breathing patterns
Who dares?
If you make the right movements needed to follow your horse well, and have the balance to not block the springs anywhere, then Joker will give you the feeling that you are on a real horse. But if you're not quite ready yet, it doesn't feel that pleasant.
On Joker you are also responsible for your own left/right balance. Because the saddle is loose and the construction of springs is not very stable, crookedness of the rider is not only clearly shown, but the rider also quickly feels when he has corrected himself properly.
Joker has already provided many beautiful eye-openers at all different rider levels. He is very patient and very well-behaved, but super consistent! Who dares ??

Joker training days
Do you have a Joker simulator and/or would you like to learn more about posture and sitting, balance, movement and biomechanics? Or are you an instructor or other professional considering purchasing a Joker simulator? Would you like to see and experience what Joker can do for you and your clients?
Special “Joker training days” are organised several times a year at various locations in the Netherlands and Belgium. On these practical days, Roos works together with equestrian sports therapist Barbara Faber.
These days are aimed at (future) Joker owners, but you are also welcome if you just want to train your eye and your feel! During these training sessions, we focus entirely on the practice of riding and teaching with JOKER the horse simulator.
This allows you to gain new knowledge and inspiration and learn not only from our years of knowledge and experience, but also from each other.
